I’m back!! And I’ve got flowers for everyone!

Hi all!
I’m so glad I’m back now. It just feels so good to talk about my experiences in the past 2 months! It seems so long since I’ve posted… Which is sadly a fact as well.
It’s been 2 months, and I’m telling you, it’s been such an up and down 2 months. Assignments, exams, assignments, exams… and then group work. That’s all been happening since my last post. But don’t worry I’ve got stuff to post (expect I realise I got to work real hard this weekend to catch up with this blog!)
What I have for you this time are pretty flowers that I took a while ago, but they turned out quite good! I edited it a bit so the colours would look closer to the real flower, and I used my reflector as well!

Let’s compare: Types of Cameras

Sometimes, sometimes, I feel like I’m suddenly smart (all of a sudden). I can think of stuff, that not many other people can think of. But I always will drag myself down, by saying that person may just have some head blockages, that’s why they couldn’t think of it. So at the end, I’m not so smart after all.
This time, I really think I’m smart. Mainly because, the person who triggered the topic up, always speak like that. They don’t care what other people say, they would just say it out, regardless of the consequences.
And this topic is…… Types of Cameras! Yes, there are TONNES of cameras around, but not all of them are good quality. There’s phone cameras, P&S (compact) cameras, micro four-thirds, inter-changeable cameras, and DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex). Out of the lot, I honestly think that DSLR’s are the best. And second and third best would be the micro-four thirds and inter-changeable. These three should be the better of the rest, mainly because their sensor and lens sizes are much bigger than the common compact and phone cameras. And this obviously makes a huge difference to the quality of your output photos.
So here’s some of my comparisons from my own cameras; phone cameras (Samsung Star), compact (Casio EX-Z750) and DSLR (Nikon D60)

Smoke Photography : Take One

Hi everyone!
It seems like a long time since I’ve posted anything. But don’t worry, this post will be pretty good (well at least I think so).  And guess what? It’s about Smoke Photography! (Yay?)
So yea, I tried this smoke photography out, and it all started when I reheated my bowl of mashed potato (don’t you think the potatoes at ALDI is cheap as hell?!), and I saw smoke coming out, and I’m like, “OMG! It’s smoke!! Quick, get my camera out!” And yea, it started with that, but I first noticed that you must have a black background in order to be able to see the actual smoke. This was the end result.

Bad much? I guess you can still see a tiny little bit of smoke.

Baking Adventures with Brian

Hi all
My oh my, it's been another week again?! I mean, why is this week passing all so quickly, when so little things have happened? Anyhows, this week has been another exciting week with school holidays ending at the end of the week, and a starting to a 2-week to an interesting school holidays. Which also means, games, games, and more games.

So for this week at work, I was only working for 1 1/2 days, and there was a Year 10 Work Experience student working at the childcare centre for a week. It was good, seeing that there was still students interested in childcare and willing to work for a week. It really brought me back my memories when I was in Year 10, and doing my work experience in my old childcare centre, where I used to attend.

I know, that there's been a bit of postings in this month, and I shouldn't be doing so many. But hey, I do have things to write about, and I'm not just blabbing about something that doesn't make sense. Well, I hope not.

Anyways, I was told this week by my friend (you know who you are!) that it was intended that I should give back the rose that I borrowed from him for the Valentines shoot. And yet, I haven't given it back to him yet, because I'm still trying to get some more ideas for it. So this time, I was just wondering whether adding a special background to the original shot. So I did and it turned out well!

I took a picture of the background, and I really advise that the background should be simple so it would not attract the viewers attention to the background rather than the subject. So I took a shot of my veranda's tiles. Then I took a shot of the rose with a white background. And on Photoshop, I put the background and the rose together and it turned out quite well!

Bending Light... With Dots!

Bending light is such a funny side of photography. It makes the shot look really funny, and it makes it look ever so special. I really like it.

I mean, sure sometimes bending light isn't so funny every time. For example directing light from one source and reflecting it to your subject. But it's a very good way to make some new ideas with light.

So this time, I read my magazine (again) and I found that they used some wine glasses to bend the light to make funny patterns. They got a pattern from Google, like polka dots and put some glasses at the front, and they did some still art with it!

So I thought of some ideas from this concept. And I used some stripes and polka dots (I had to try their concept first!)



This was one of my first ones. I edited it a bit, because the dots at the back are a little faint and they were just not vibrant enough.

Since my first day of photography, I have always wanted to know how the professionals do their photos in such a great style. The photographer that I cherish most is probably Simon Ho (blog.simonthephoto.com). His works are so good! And some of the techniques he uses are so pretty and amazing. Not just that, he seems to have many ideas on the top of his head, and I have also learnt something from him. "Dont’ limit yourself by the location, the limit is only your imagination". And that is very true. He has been to so many places, and he also has been to places many times. But the only thing he doesn't repeat is his techniques. His imagination is endless. Well, I guess that's why people don't get awards for the sake of getting them!


So for the first post of the month, I thought that I'd show you one of my newest found technique that I found in a magazine. I actually bought that magazine since January, but it was only now, that I tried the techniques and "Photo DIY". So this time is the glowing effect. The glowing effect has this thing with making roses look extremely romantic, and other items looks very cute, and exotic. It's a very nice effect I have to say!

Bounce Flash~~

Hello once again!
Today i found some really exciting additions to my camera... And it's a piece of foil!! Yep, a piece of foil. I sort of searched it somewhere, and apparently, when trying to bounce flash from a in-camera flash, you can use foil. Well, using the glossy side would be good. So basically, you jut angle the piece of foil into the cameras flash, and you would be trying to reflect the flash, onto somewhere else (like a ceiling or wall) and put it back into the subject. It takes time to make the angle to correct, because at first, when I did mine, I just held my foil in place, and just shot the picture. But later on, I sort of went lazy, and I wanted to just attach the foil onto the flash, so I could just shoot the photos and not worry about the foil. And I did it, using some wire. Just poked a hole onto the foil, and hooked it onto my flash. So basically, now, I can take it off, and put it back on when I need it!

Partial Black and White~~

Hello Everybody!
Yep, it's blogging time once again. Now, you can go and guess what my new interest and obsession is about this time. Let's give you a hint. It's this blogs title! Yep, it's partial black and white. Pretty cool eh? For those who does not know what is partial black and white is, it is a black and white picture, with the main focus points (or the stuff the photographer wants the viewer to be focused on) in colour!
Also, lately, I have went to a table tennis competition, and I was shooting for them for the day. This was really fun and challenging. Actually, it was extremely challenging because, the game was played inside a shopping centre, where there was low light and fast actions. Before the game, I was tossing around about whether I should bring my lousy tripod, but luckily, I made the decision to bring my tripod, and it was a very good choice to do so! Because, it was shot in low light, I had to use a tripod so I can allow myself to do some slow shutter speed shots. Even thought some shots were done in slow shutter speeds, there was enough light, but the shots were blurry because the players were doing some fast action. So even though I got some nice "action" shots, I also wanted some sharp, non-blurry shots. So this got me to use a higher shutter speed and a higher ISO speed. I know, I know, using a higher ISO speed causes noise? Yep, I know that. For the whole day, the highest ISO I used was up to 800ISO. Even though this is just a low ISO speed, it did get some noise in it, causing me to edit it, and make it all smooth again. I guess it wasn't impossible, it was just 10x harder than using 200ISO. So I guess I need some more practice sometime later in the year.
So far, until this point, I have a few needs and wants in my life. These are *drum rolls*: Buy new zoom lens and fish eye lens (Yea, I know, it's not a need, its a want), get some fireworks, fast action shots and landscape portraits done. Actually I want to do a long panoramic view shot as well. But last of all (Yes, this one is a need, a definite need as well), is to earn more money, and so I can spend on my needs and wants. Hehe.

My very first artful photoshoot

Hey guys!
For once in my life, I have actually put art into my photo shoot of the day. This sort of means that I did a couple of shots of pictures without any people, and yet it turned out pretty good. That's so good because, I used to think art was a waste of time and I would die before I get famous. Well, I guess, as long as I'm not trying to make money out of non-human pictures, then I'm fine.

Anyway, I hope I soon know how to add pictures to blogs. That's going to happen sooner or later, I guess and hope.
